Getting Started With Northwest Home Repair Services Not sure where to start?

A 10–15 minute phone consultation is often enough to answer initial questions, discuss your project, and determine whether we're the right fit before scheduling an on-site visit.

  • Do You Offer Free Estimates?

Yes. We offer free, no-obligation estimates for all remodeling and home repair projects located within a 30-mile radius of Post Falls, Idaho. Projects outside our standard service area require a $150 on-site consultation fee, which is due at the time of the estimate.

  • What Happens After I Contact You?

The first step is a phone conversation. We’ll discuss your project, learn more about your goals, and determine whether it’s a good fit for our services. If it is, we’ll schedule an on-site visit to evaluate everything in person.

  • How Quickly Can You Come Out?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • What Areas Do You Serve?

Northwest Home Repair proudly serves homeowners throughout Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Rathdrum, and many surrounding communities throughout Kootenai County.

  • Are You Licensed and Insured?

Yes. Northwest Home Repair Services is fully licensed in Idaho (RCE-62193) and carries the appropriate insurance to protect both our clients and our business.

  • Do You Guarantee Your Work?

Yes. We proudly stand behind our workmanship with a one-year workmanship warranty on completed projects.

  • How Much Does a Bathroom Remodel Cost?

Bathroom remodeling costs vary depending on the size of the space, the materials you choose, and the scope of the work. Smaller bathroom refreshes may start around $6,000, while complete custom bathroom remodels with premium finishes can exceed $40,000. The best way to determine the cost of your project is with an on-site consultation and detailed estimate.

  • How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take?

Every bathroom remodel is different. Smaller bathroom updates may take only a few days, while complete remodels typically take 3–6 weeks, depending on the scope of work, material availability, inspections, and any unforeseen conditions discovered during demolition.

  • Can You Convert a Tub Into a Walk-In Shower?

Yes. Tub-to-shower conversions are one of our most requested bathroom remodeling services and are an excellent way to improve accessibility, functionality, and the overall appearance of your bathroom.

  • Do I Need Permits?

It depends on the scope of your remodel. Cosmetic updates typically do not require permits, while projects involving plumbing, electrical, framing, or structural modifications usually do.

  • Can I Use My Bathroom During Construction?

It depends on the scope of the remodel. Some smaller updates allow the bathroom to remain usable at the end of each workday, while full renovations generally make the bathroom unavailable until construction is complete.

  • Can You Help Choose Materials?

Yes. While we’re not interior designers, we regularly help homeowners choose products and materials that fit their goals, budget, and lifestyle. When appropriate, we’re also happy to recommend working with a professional designer.

  • Do You Install Products I Purchase Myself?

Yes, we do—but it’s an important conversation that should happen as early as possible. While we’re happy to install homeowner-supplied materials in many situations, we want to make sure the products you’ve selected are compatible with your project, meet quality standards, and won’t create unnecessary delays or unexpected costs.

  • What Waterproofing System Do You Use?

There isn’t a single waterproofing system that’s right for every bathroom. At Northwest Home Repair, we regularly install Hydro Blok®, Johns Manville GoBoard®, and Schluter®-KERDI

systems because they have proven to be reliable, durable, and designed specifically for wet environments. The best system depends on your bathroom, your design goals, and your budget.

  • How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost?

Kitchen remodeling costs vary widely depending on the size of the kitchen, the quality of the materials selected, and the scope of the renovation. Smaller kitchen updates may start around $12,500, while complete custom kitchen remodels with premium finishes and layout changes can exceed $60,000.

  • Do You Install Customer-Supplied Cabinets?

Yes. We’re happy to install homeowner-supplied cabinets, but it’s important to discuss this early in the planning process to ensure the products are suitable for your project and that scheduling stays on track.

  • Can I Stay in My Home During the Remodel?

Yes. Most homeowners remain in their homes throughout the remodeling process, and we take extensive precautions to protect the rest of your home while construction is underway.

  • Do Countertops Happen Before or After Cabinets?

Countertops are installed after the cabinets are installed and secured in their final position.

  • Can You Coordinate Plumbing and Electrical?

Yes—and we actually prefer to. Coordinating licensed plumbing and electrical subcontractors helps keep your remodel organized, efficient, and on schedule.

  • How Do You Protect My Home?

Protecting your home is one of our highest priorities. Before work begins, we take the time to properly protect flooring, isolate the work area, and minimize dust and debris so the rest of your home stays as clean and protected as possible.

  • How Do You Handle Dust?

Construction dust is inevitable, but spreading it throughout your home doesn’t have to be. We use professional dust containment systems to isolate the work area and significantly reduce dust migration into the rest of your home.

  • Will I Have the Same Point of Contact?

Yes. When you work with Northwest Home Repair, you’ll work directly with me, Joe, throughout your project. You’ll always know who to call if you have questions, concerns, or simply want an update on your remodel.

  • What Happens If Unexpected Issues Are Discovered?

We do everything possible to identify potential issues before construction begins, but some conditions simply can’t be seen until walls, flooring, or fixtures are removed. If unexpected issues arise, we’ll stop, explain the situation, discuss your options, and never move forward without your approval.

  • How Far Out Are You Scheduling?

Our schedule varies throughout the year depending on demand and project size. Some smaller projects may be scheduled within a few days, while larger remodeling projects may be booked 8–12 weeks in advance during our busiest seasons.

  • How Are Payments Handled?

We accept cash, check, and all major debit and credit cards. Every project is invoiced, and payments can be made securely online through the payment link included with each invoice.

  • Do You Require a Deposit?

Yes. We require a deposit on all projects to reserve your place on our schedule and begin planning your project. Smaller repair projects typically require a 50% deposit, while larger remodeling projects generally require a 20% deposit upon signing the contract.

  • What Payment Methods Do You Accept?

We accept cash, personal checks, and all major debit and credit cards.

  • Do You Have a Minimum Service Charge?

Yes. Our minimum service charge is $165. This covers travel time, fuel, jobsite setup, and the first portion of labor needed to complete your repair.

  • What Kinds of Repairs Do You Perform?

We provide a wide variety of residential home repair and maintenance services throughout Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Rathdrum, and the surrounding Kootenai County area. If you’re unsure whether we handle your repair, just ask—we’re happy to discuss your project.

  • Can You Repair Water Damage?

Yes. Water damage repair is one of our more common services. We take every precaution to protect your home during demolition, control potential contaminants, and restore damaged areas using proper repair methods.

  • Do You Replace Doors and Windows?

Yes. We install and replace a wide variety of residential doors and windows, including both interior and exterior products.

  • Can You Fix Drywall and Repaint?

Absolutely. Drywall repair is one of our most requested services. Whether you’re dealing with a small hole, water damage, settling cracks, or a larger section that needs replacement, we can restore your walls and ceilings so the repair blends naturally with the surrounding area.

  • Do You Remove Walls?

Yes. We perform interior demolition and remove walls as part of remodeling projects. Before any wall is removed, we determine whether it’s load-bearing and develop a plan to complete the work safely and in accordance with applicable building codes.

  • Can You Match Existing Textures?

Yes. Matching existing drywall texture is one of the most important parts of creating a seamless repair or remodel. We work with some of the area’s most experienced drywall finishers to ensure new work blends naturally into your existing home.

  • Can You Install Flooring Throughout an Occupied Home?

Yes. Many of our flooring projects are completed while homeowners continue living in their homes. We carefully plan each phase of the installation to minimize disruption while protecting your furniture, flooring, and living spaces.

  • Do You Handle Trim and Finish Carpentry?

Absolutely. Finish carpentry is one of the final steps that brings a remodeling project together. We install and repair trim, doors, baseboards, casings, and other finish details with an emphasis on precision and craftsmanship.

  • How Do I Choose the Right Remodeling Contractor?

Choosing the right contractor involves much more than comparing prices. Look for someone who is licensed, insured, communicates clearly, has strong reviews, provides detailed written estimates, and has experience with projects similar to yours.

  • What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Contractor?

A good contractor should welcome questions. In fact, asking the right questions is one of the best ways to protect yourself and make an informed hiring decision.

  • Why Shouldn’t I Automatically Choose the Lowest Bid?

The lowest estimate isn’t always the best value. Lower bids can sometimes reflect differences in project scope, materials, communication, insurance coverage, or overall quality rather than true savings.

  • Should I Get Multiple Estimates?

Yes. We generally recommend obtaining two or three estimates for larger remodeling projects so you can compare approaches, scope, communication, and overall value—not just price.

  • Why Are Remodeling Estimates So Different?

No two contractors estimate projects exactly the same. Differences in scope, materials, labor, scheduling, subcontractors, warranties, and experience can all affect the final price.

  • What Should a Professional Estimate Include?

A professional estimate should clearly explain the scope of work, materials, exclusions, payment schedule, estimated timeline, warranty information, and any assumptions made before construction begins.

  • Should I Hire One Contractor or Manage Multiple Subcontractors Myself?

While it’s possible to manage multiple subcontractors yourself, many homeowners find that hiring one contractor to coordinate the entire project saves time, reduces stress, and keeps the project moving efficiently.

  • What Are Change Orders?

A change order is a written agreement that documents changes to the original scope of work after construction has begun.
